Atlanta Has Another Pro Sports Team?

When we talk about professional sports in Atlanta, we all know the usual names — Falcons, Hawks, Braves, United. They're iconic, and rightfully so.

But what if I told you there's another pro team in the Atlanta area that's fast, electric, family-friendly, and already a national champion… and most people don’t even know they exist?

Let me introduce you to the Georgia Swarm — Atlanta’s professional box lacrosse team.

Not field lacrosse. Box lacrosse — the indoor version that moves like hockey, strategizes like basketball, and feels like a live event with music and nonstop energy.

They play at Gas South Arena in Duluth, just 30 minutes northeast of the city, with home games from December through May — perfect for families, sports fans, or anyone looking for something fresh and high-energy.

Now here’s the personal part:

I came into this job unfamiliar with the team — and the sport, honestly. I’m from the Midwest, Wisconsin to be exact. Where I’m from, teams rally behind each other. Whether it’s the Packers, the Bucks, the Brewers, or a local college team, there’s a strong sense of shared pride and community support across the board.

But in Atlanta? It’s… different.

There’s incredible talent. There’s deep pride. But the collaboration and crossover support among teams — it’s just not as natural or common here. And I can’t stop wondering why.

That’s become part of my personal mission this year: to connect the dots across Atlanta sports. To build bridges. To amplify what’s already happening and make sure it gets seen and felt by more people.

Because the Georgia Swarm is here. This isn’t a side project — it’s a professional team with national championships, world-class athletes (seriously — Lyle Thompson is like the LeBron of lacrosse), and an experience that rivals any arena sport in energy and entertainment.

Still, I hear it all the time:

“Wait — Georgia has a lacrosse team?” “Since when?” “How did I not know about this?”

Meanwhile, in other cities — Buffalo, San Diego, Vancouver, Denver — the National Lacrosse League is thriving. Packed arenas. Dedicated fans. Major-league partnerships. So what’s stopping Atlanta?

This is a city that turns out for football, baseball, soccer… why not box lacrosse?

The Swarm is entering its 10th season in Georgia. That’s a decade of highlights too many people have missed. But it’s not too late to change that.

So here’s my ask:

✅ Help grow something special — not just for the Swarm, but for Atlanta as a true sports community.

We’ve got something here. And it deserves to be seen.
